Otro gran viaje!
"Grandes Vacaciones"
Hermoso Resort bien mantenido. Excelente comida y ambiente relajante.

"Grand Mayan"
Very nice accommodations (two bedroom), trail maps are terrible, sales men are worse than used car salesmen. Resort facilities are very good. Resort is not close to any cities, taxi service is good. Construction caused problems because facilities that I was familiar with were not available.
"SPECTACULAR STAFF AND LOCATION"
I absolutely LOVED this vacation, my favorite by far! We stayed for 3 weeks! Beautiful location, WONDERFUL STAFF! Giovanni from the Vidanta Joy Squad was the MOST AMAZING STAFF MEMBER I have ever encountered in all of my vacations! He was super fun, charismatic, sweet, patient, welcoming and kind. He remembered me and my husband by name! His dance classes were so much fun! All of the activities (Bingo, making guacamole etc...) he managed them in such a great way! When I return for another vacation, it will be majorly to see Giovanni again! He made my stay 10 times better! We have already booked another stay for this resort again for another 3 weeks for next year and we cannot wait to see Geovanni again! Some of the other staff members who were also WONDERFUL are... Ricardo, Christian and Manuel from the Joy Squad as well! They were super fun and awesome! Rosendo, the bartender was WONDERFUL!! SUCH A GREAT GROUP OF STAFF MEMBERS! Alberto the DJ is awesome as well!
"Vidanta Grand Mayan Riviera Maya"
Extremely clean, kind and helpful staff. Going for swim in the ocean might be tricky, lots of rocks at the bottom. Huge pool with lots of activities. A little dissapointed with evening shows. Good food, plenty of varieties, beautiful surroundings.
"Grand Mayan Riviera Maya"
It definitely is a jungle, and so very beautiful. It is especially awesome for people who like to walk safely in a jungle. Vidanta takes wonderful care of the grounds, pools, and living accommodations. Everything is spotless.
"Paradisiacal resort, but check your bill carefully"
This is a beautiful resort and it has everything, even its own theater with Cirque de Soleil performing several times a week, not to mention beach, restaurants, beautiful grounds with walks at tree-top level. It has two gyms, two spas and of course, a beach. The sea there has rocks so bring rubber shoes. The resort is stratified so depending where you are staying, there are places (pools, restaurants) you can or cannot go to. Also at the end of your stay there are three taxes (resort tax, state tax and who knows what the third one is). They also add a donation for some charity program they support, but you can refuse it if you wish. On top of all that you get presented with TWO envelopes for tips for the daily maids (morning and evening). I don't understand why they have to clean your room EVERY day - so unnecessary. You can of course hang "do not disturb" on your door. The resort has a no cash policy so you sign for everything and pay at the end, but bell boys and maids, as well as waiters will of course accept cash.
"Could not have been better"
We didn't know what to expect since this was our first trip to Mexico. My brother-in-law had a deal that we could stay for a very cheap amount so we thought the accommodations would meet the price. I was wrong. The Grand Mayan has for resorts in one. The Grand Mayan Palace, the Grand Mayan, The Bliss, and the Grand Luxxe. We were located at the Grand Mayan. The Grand Mayan offered us an opportunity to go to a sales breakfast (free breakfast) which provided an opportunity for additional discounts at the resort; however, they were not pushy. We signed up originally but decided not to go later. It was not a problem for the resort. Now the resort was great! The service was excellent! The good was beyond belief. We had a couple of meals that were not as good as the best; but they were still unbelievable. The excursions were commercial but still fun. We went to Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins with Cancun Bay. It was good! wish we could have spend more time at the ruins that going to markets and other places. But all in all, it was a nice trip. Were also went to Tulum. Now you have to go to a jewelry store and tequila factory next door to the jewelry store. Then drive 45 minutes to Tulum, but you can't beat the price $5 per person traveling, THAT's ALL! The entrance to Tulum was free and lunch (Subway) was free! The whole trip for 4 people cost less than $3,000. That is for 8 days and 7 nights! They have a turn down service with chocolates and concierge service that is awesome! There is transportation to Playa Del Carmen, where everybody goes to .......... WALMART! or the Mega Store. Yes, I did say Walmart. There are several restaurants that have great food also. I also found out the resort has a doctor, in the event of an unfortunate accident (noting to do with the resort- mostly age)! Check out The Grand Mayan (outside Cancun) if you want to play a tropical getaway for the whole family, you and significant other, or yourself!
"Another Fantastic Vacation at the Grand Mayan"
We followed the reviews on RCI and Tripadvisor.com and blogs for a year prior to our visit and had many great tips. Hoping we can repay and pay it forward. We stayed at the Vidanta Grand Mayan the first 2 weeks of October 2017 in a 2 bedroom suite with another couple. We had stayed here 5 years ago. We are Worldmark/RCI owners. We are 66 and 71 years old and the other couple is around 55-60. FIRST THINGS FIRST: - Yes it is a huge resort! 1000 acres! 15 pools (not sure where they are all at). 17 bars and restaurants. Golf course. Cirque Du Soleil. - Yes, this is a 5 star resort. Beautiful grounds. Great presentation of meals. Great service. - Yes, it will take time to learn the trams and wooden walkways and activities. - Yes, there is a lot of walking - but good for your waistline - did I say huge resort? - No, you do not want to go to the sales presentation - takes way more time that they say. They will contact you at check-in and say No and increase your emphasis as they increase their pitch. - Yes, there are different access levels to the pools and some restaurants. - No, this will not affect how much fun you will have - Yes, it is in the jungle and you will probably get rain and mosquitoes - No, even if it says 80% rain, you will still have lots of good, warm weather - Yes, the ocean entrance is rocky, but the beach itself is nice - Just chill and allow yourself to have fun - YES! We would go back in a minute! The Vidanta Riviera Maya is huge and made up of 5 different levels of resorts on the property: Mayan Palace, Bliss, Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe. There are different levels with restricted access to their pools and restaurants - the Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe being the highest with 2 restricted pools and Mayan Palace being the lowest with access only to the main pool. Everyone has access to the huge, main pool centrally located next to the beach. This is a super cool, super fun, luxurious resort. It is not as cheap as some smaller places, such as Playa, but you get what you pay for. We have not been to other Riviera Maya resorts so can't compare. If someone is here and is not having a good time I have to wonder about the mindset as there is so much to do and the staff is so friendly. Our room charges were about $950 for two weeks for food and drinks and we did not skimp.. There were other expenses for taxis off of the resort, food off the resort and a day trip to Isla Mujeres (not a tour). We thought that was very reasonable for a two week vacation.
"Beautiful grounds and pools"
Overall very positive - we loved the setting in a jungle along the coast. Luckily I read previous reviews (thx to everyone who posted their experiences). They tried to put us in a building in the jungle area with free shuttles to town , but I requested building 1-8 because what I had previously read. So glad I did!!! Our bldg was by the lake. We were so close to the pools and the restaurants. We always walked vs taking the shuttles. We only used the shuttles when we went on tours or into Playa Del Carmen. Check in process was long!! They wanted me to sign up for a disclosure meeting, and when I asked if it was a timeshare sales pitch, they said no. I ended up sitting through 4 hours of various people trying to buy my timeshare and sell me theirs. Very painful, but I did get 50% off my resort fees and 10% off my purchases. However, on checkout, they did not include these discounts the first time, and I had check out all over again. So the check in and check out process was not the best! Highlights - the beautiful wooden walkways that were lit up at night, and I love to walk and the grounds were gorgeous. We saw tons of iguanas, crocodiles, beautiful birds, and even a few snakes. Best of all - no mosquitos!! The pools were incredible. The Mayan Palace is the 2nd largest in Latin America! We soon discovered happy hour was noon to 2 pm at all the pools. Food wise we really like Gong, the Asian restaurant - very fresh sushi and spectacular night views. Chiringita, the Spanish restaurant, had amazing paella - even the vegetarian one! We brought our own sparkling Rose expecting to pay a corkage fee, but were not charged. Yay! Del Lago buffet is unbelievable! We went there for Day of the Dead celebration. Not only good food, but very professional, talented, fun show! We also like Blue Fish ceviche and lobster tacos. Recommend to get the VIDA blue card for some free items. Havana Moon food was ok, but we enjoyed the live music. Our fast food go to place was Jade deli - great sandwiches and crepes. Plus we stocked up on breakfast groceries there. I even bought a swim suit at Jade boutique Free shopping in Playa Del Carmen. It was a better price at Jade! Housekeeping was exceptional - not only was our spotless, but they would leave various animals created from towels. Cute! It was nice to have a concierge in each building. The grounds are huge and it took us a while to figure out how to get places. But what a wonderful experience.
"Week visit"
Huge place, great pools, beach, staff, restaurants, gym beach. Property is huge and could never find our way back from the pools to our room. Wife says taking grandchildren would be freighting for fear they would open the door and get lost. 1,800 rooms and a shuttle service that goes and goes. Sometimes you need to transfer to get where you are going.
"Great Resort"
Great food. Entertainment nightly and the Joya show is fabulous. Great service everywhere. The Beach Club is spectacular. Highly recommend doing the experience at the Beach Club. Overall great fun and service
"The employees are the best part and made our time wonderful!"
This is a HUGE resort. Now, we are not normally the kind of people who hang at a large resort, but more prefer the small boutique and cabana/camping/treehouse type places. But, we recently went through a very rough summer and needed to get away and just relax and rest. As another vacation wasn't really in the budget, my parents gifted us with the stay, since they have a time share with a partner company. We rested on the beach everyday, played beach volley, drank cocktails, went to the gym, and played in the pool. The restaurants are very very good, so you don't feel like your being pushed into eating the food in the hotel that is less than palatable. Every place was very tasty. BUT, the BEST part was the staff. Riccardo with the Joy Squad played beach volley and held the water aerobics class each day and he really brought joy to our week. He is a genuine person who truly wants each guest to enjoy their time there. He even remembered that we spoke French after the first five minute meeting, and there are lots of people at this one resort. That meant a lot to us. Like I said, we were going through a tough time of grief, and he really helped to lighten our spirits and bring a smile to our faces each day. It truly is the people that make the place. And, there is no exception here. Thanks!
"Very nice resort with great service..."
This was our second time to the resort and we were very pleased with the amenities and the service. The rooms are spacious and nice, the grounds beautiful and very well kept, the pools are magnificent, and the beach is nice except for the fact that there is almost no sand bottom access into the ocean. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We were particularly impressed with Carlos Cob and Rosendo who helped us while we lounged under the palapas! The negative of the resort is definitely the timeshare sales process. From the moment you check in, they have sales members signing you up for a "free breakfast". If you agree to it, you will likely sacrifice most of a day of your vacation and face very high pressure sales from multiple sales people. Not a pleasant experience! Overall, a great place for a vacation!
"Grand Mayan Riviera Maya Is An Awesome Resort With The Most Wonderful People!"
My wife and I stayed here with our children and their friends for the first time in October 1-15 of 2017. We were totally thrilled with the beauty of the resort and the grounds surrounding it. We found everything but the sales dept. to be absolutely enjoyable! Our accommodations far exceeded our expectations! We really enjoyed interacting and meeting so many of the Mexican people working there and in the nearby towns. We took many trips on the combis. We spent much time at the main pool where we participated in the many pool activities presented by the Joya team. We joined in the aqua robics and pilates which was taught by Ricardo Herrara Jimenez. He is an excellent instructor and works very well with getting everyone involved in the different games and excercises. He is very personable to all ages. My kids loved him! He is a true asset to Vidanta. We did not get to interact much with the other team members of the Joya squad. We did speak with Christian and Oscar who were also very pleasant to us at all times and led the games well. We really enjoyed the Mexican Fiesta, Retro Night and the additional Mexican Dance night. The dancers were extraordinarily professional and so skilled. The food was exceptional! One of the dancers interacted so nicely with our group and his name is Bernabe bernal uribe. He was very pleasant. I'd also like to give special mention to the tram driver named Angel. I don't know the rest of his name but he took special time to greet each of us every time we got on the tram. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and can't wait to return asap.
"Great Resort With The BEST Pools!"
We've been back for about 2 weeks now, so I will just try to quickly summarize the most important points. Overall, we really enjoyed the resort and it was better than we expected. Yes, it is huge and there is a lot of walking, but I actually miss walking through the jungle every day and just look at the walking as exercise! The trams come by often and are easy to take, so there is really nothing to complain about. The best thing about the size of the resort is that it always feels like you have part of it to yourself, whether it is at the beach, a pool, a restaurant, or even when you're just walking around on a path. Sometimes it really felt like we were the only ones there, which is great if you are looking for some quiet time. Our favorite thing about this resort was the pools! The giant main pool is open 24 hours and is amazing at night! The sanctuary pool is open until 11pm and is the quiet pool behind the Jade store and is also situated next to the Blue Fish restaurant. The Jade store is the most convenient thing ever! We bought a bottle of vodka and a bottle of rum which lasted the whole week. They even have things like eggs, pasta, vegetables, and a deli where you can get things like crepes and sandwiches. Everything was reasonably priced. We still ordered things like beer, but we saved a lot of money on alcohol thanks to this store. Tip, we brought a water bottle which we filled with alcohol and juice, so we would take that when we left our room to hang out at the pools. We were prepared to go out of our way to a grocery store in Playa Del Carmen, but didn't even need to anymore.
"Grand Mayan"
Having to pay for parking, OUTRAGEOUS! Has grown, way, too big. Not as personable. Service was great. Food was good, but too expensive. Good Security, felt safe. Buildings too far from everything, especially the pools & beach.
"Our Grand Mayan Riviera Maya vacation was like 2 weeks in Paradise!!"
Thanks to Hurricane Matthew last year, we had to end our Bahamas vacation after just 2 days. RCI was great in refunding our 2 (2 bedroom units) with choosing another place to stay. I randomly chose the Grand Mayan for this year. I was also able to book a second week. Without a doubt, it was the very best vacation that we have ever experienced!! Before I say all of the positive aspects of this wonderful trip, I would strongly warn anyone considering this resort to avoid the resort presentations like the plague! I had read all of the reviews warning against it, but somehow, we got pulled into sitting for what was to be 1 hour of nonstop high pressure sales. It turned out to be much, much longer and absolutely the biggest waste of our time! If you value your precious time, don't do it! Now for the positive!! The unit we stayed in the first week was absolutely adequate to accommodate 7 people very comfortably. We had a 2 bedroom master suite and it included everything that we possibly needed for the stay. We had a dipping pool on the large patio that overlooked the jungle trail. The one thing that we will remember to request next time is that the unit overlooks the trail instead of the road. The noise of the tramcars and frequent vehicles passing is quite loud. We chose this vacation not to cook in our unit as we usually do, but the kitchen would certainly have been adequate if we had chosen to. The restaurants that we frequented were: Havana Moon, Balches for the breakfast buffet and lunch, Frita's, and Lago. The service was impeccable and the waiters so attentive and personable. We were always greeted so warmly and felt that they were glad to see us and serve us their absolutely delicious food. The only place that we didn't care for was the Blue Fish. This was not because it was anything less than perfect but because we do not care for seafood that much. The ambience of each restaurant was excellent. We enjoyed the live music nightly at the Havana Moon. Tips are included with the bill and especially at the Havana Moon, the waiters always pointed this out. It was much appreciated that they were not trying to keep us in ignorance of this fact in order to get bigger tips. We always left extra tips anyways as we had exceptional service. We got rather spoiled at Balches where the waiters pulled out our chairs and even laid out napkins on our laps. Very attentive! The Mexican Fiesta, though a bit pricey, is worth every cent. The buffet is beyond description from entrees to desserts and everything in between. My kids were so disappointed when they realized that they could have had as many virgin pina coladas as they wanted which were also included. The show was so authentic and cultural. The dancers were extraordinarily good and entertaining. The show seemed to have a story but unfortunately, we don't speak Spanish so we missed the meaning. We will definitely be studying this beautiful language so that we can speak it and understand it before we return. Each dancer was flawless and i want to give special mention to Bernabe Bernal Uribe who had such a sweet smile and interacted so nicely with our group even though he did not speak English. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Retro Night at Lago where we were able to dance with several members from Joya as well as the performers. Speaking of Joya, each member of our group enjoyed them immensely. Every day we would plan to be at the pool to either watch or participate in the activities that the Joya activities crew would have for the guests. Everything they did was fun and entertaining! At the foam party, even my husband and I joined in getting soaking wet and covered with soapy foam! With the encouragement of Ricardo Herrera, we joined in a water polo game which neither of us had ever done before. I want to give special mention to Ricardo who is an excellent activities director. He led the aqua robics. My two girls would plan to be at the pool every day at noon so that they could participate in this activity. He was also involved as I said with water polo and with the other pool games. The other members of Joya were so personable, but I didn't have much opportunity to interact with them. Ricardo made it a point to greet my husband and me each time he saw us by name, to take time to talk with us and answer any questions that we had and to invite us to join in the activities. He is genuine and truly one of the nicest young men that we have ever met on a vacation. When we left, we felt like we had made a true friend! Another part of this resort that we really loved was the lush, tropical jungle that it is surrounded by. We loved walking the trails with the foliage on both sides and occasional glimpses of iguanas, exotic birds and coatis. There is music coming from speakers hidden in the foliage on the trail. The one disappointment was that it was American music and not Mexican. The beach is beautiful however, it is not inviting to enter the water as it is quite rocky. I did see several guests snorkeling though. There are several piers which we enjoyed walking on to see the different colors in the water. During our stay, we wanted to experience and get to meet the Mexican people. We always took the combi or collectivo for our transportation. It is very reasonable and comfortable. We took 3 trips to Playa Del Carmen, 1 trip to Puerto Aventurous, 2 trips to Puerto Morelos, 1 trip to Tulum and 1 trip to the Selva Maya ziplining adventure. That will be a separate review. I know that the US State Dept. issued a travel advisory regarding travel to Mexico, in fact right before we had left for Mexico. We were always careful where we went and certainly didn't go to bars or anywhere questionable. We were in Playa Del Carmen though as late as 11 PM and never felt in any way threatened or in danger. What we encountered wherever we went were some of the sweetest and warmest people we have ever met. We truly fell in love with the Mexican people! Since returning home, our one goal is to go back as quickly as we can! We all left our hearts there!
"Tropical Storm Nate"
Very nice resort! Huge property,so best to use the free trams when possible! Got lost the first night there just walking around! Food was good but we have had better at other resorts. Store has nice options of food for in room meals. Approaching tropical storm Nate caused several rainy days and passing showers, but no big deal. Staff put up hurricane tarps on every building the day before the storm hit. Very professional and a lot of work on their part!
"Fantastic week at the GM in Cancun"
The Grand Mayan in Playa del Carmen, Mexico is a wonderful experience. The people treat you like royalty. The rooms are spacious, well furnished, meticulously maintained and very comfortable. Kitchens, two bedrooms, living room with fold out couches. The unit would sleep 10. We loved the five pools with the Mayan pool being the most expansive and many fun activities. The food is a bit expensive but the restaurants are extremely good. The service is five star, the food was fabulous and the atmosphere is beautiful. It is a short 30 minute ride from the airport in Cancun to the resort with transportation from the airport to the resort free of charge. We upgraded our membership to the Grand Luxxe during the week and look forward to the luxurious experience of the Private Residence Club for our next visit. If you want a week in luxury, let us know!
"Lush, relaxing and fun until the sales pitch!!"
My daughter and I came here to relax for the last week of a 2 & 4 month trip. Our room..though a little out dated ..was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved all the different pool areas that catered for how you felt each day from interactive to quiet and secluded!! The Joy Club crew were FANTASTIC!! If you wanted to have fun with dance lessons, beach parties, aqua aerobics, volley ball or just pool side entertainment then the main pool area is the place to be with 2 swim up bars (cocktails are weak, watery and sugary) but nice food. All staff are lovely and attentive. The cerviche at the Seafood restaurant is to die for and the quiet pool near it became our favourite. The only down side..and it was a BIG one is the time share sales pitch that was meant to take 2 hours but took 6!!!! and spoilt my day as it was overwhelming and I wanted to hide in my room afterward. Don't do it no matter what they offer for free..just enjoy your holiday!! The spa was amazing as were the treatments, the gym was great..overall a great resort
"Great Customer Service"
Best customer service ever....Rooms we're very clean ... Staff are very friendly and are always ready to give a helping hand...The pools could use a little bit of more attention, but overall it's a great resort
"A week at the Grand Mayan, Cancun"
It would be nice if there were more information available to guests. Descriptions and samples of restaurants and their menu's, also their hours. In general much more information is needed in the Resort guide. The staff was wonderful.. everyone was friendly and helpful. Our room and the resort was very clean. Be prepared to spend a lot of time being shuttled from room to pools or restaurants.
"Beautiful Resort"
The Grand Mayan is a beautiful and part of a HUGE resort! There are trams to take you to places but take walking shoes because you still have to walk a lot. The facilities are stunning, clean and up-to-date and the rooms are the same. All staff is helpful and courteous!! There is plenty to do on site and activities/events are ongoing. The beach is a little rocky but beautiful none the less. Would love to visit again!!
"Mayan Holiday"
A great family vacation; plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy; wooden walkways are kept spotless; plus easy accessibility via golf carts; we were disappointed that 2 of our favorite restaurants were closed for renovations but this offered us the opportunity to try different restaurants on the property and we enjoyed our meals; benches spaced throughout the walkways would be beneficial for us "elders"
