"Welcome Home"
We stayed at St. James on Montego Bay Jamaica. The service and attention to detail was wonderful. I would like to compliment Conseaires Dexter and Katyann for an awesome jobs.
The food was always good, with a variety nice resturants..The room was always clean , along with the turn down service that they offer..What I really liked was not being pestered by vendors on the beach.
"Wonderful New Year's vacation"
Stayed here for 4 nights during New Year's eve celebrations...The hotel really went all out with fireworks, decorations, food, champagne, dessert, party accessories, dj was great...everything was wonderful....except, they ran out of some of their pre-fix dinner options....they tried to accommodate however they could but since we made reservations several days in advance, and we didn't have a choice of meals because it was pre-fix, they should have had enough food for everyone.
The only other complaint is that they only serve breakfast in one restaurant, so it tends to get crowded and we had to wait several times for about 20 minutes to be seated for breakfast buffet.
The beach and the water are so beautiful. Grounds are kept very very clean...but wake up early to make sure you get a lounge chair.
"Check list - sunshine, smiles and good times tick, tick, tick!"
You know when you get to that time of year when you simply just need a good holidaysome sunshine, some time to relax and you want to know where your going will be nice, not just nice but a little bit of luxury, because well you deserve itwell that was meand if that is you, book confidently knowing your room will be amazing, the sunshine will be there and the staff will be brilliant.
Reception / check-in we arrived to the very lovely welcome of Jeremy, he turned out to be a total legend the whole stay. Check-in was quick and with rum! And Kimberly was great she always asked if there was anything she could help with etc etc
If you just want to lie in the sun stop reading, get booking and youll enjoy it.
If you want a little more keep reading..
I went with my friend as my other half had run out of holiday so we spent the first day enjoying the Spa, which is next to the gym so we also decided wed be relatively good. (Id go maybe after breakfast as the world and his wife were there before 9am!). You get a newsletter everyday which covers whats on in the resort and its up to you what you do if anything We enjoyed some free tennis lessons with Cliff who was great if you want to pick up that sport again, but it also meant I met a lady up for playing some golf.
Golf MUST DO White witch, I have to say Ive been lucky enough to play a few courses but this was an absolute delight , not only a great course with amazing views, but also reasonably priced and the caddy was fantastic.
(Id maybe speak to the course direct next time before I fly and see what kind of deal they can do it cost me $150 including transfers/caddy/club hire)
Food there are loads of restaurants to pick from but TOP TIP, jerk chicken by the beach, the chicken was great and you can go grab a salad from the many buffet places to have with it, also fresh fruit by beach.you dont really need to stop for lunch unless you need some shade time!
Room room was massive, Jacuzzi bath, pull the curtains and watch the sun set with a cocktail in hand!

Landing in Jamaica if its your first time, you can get an official cab from the airport if your happy to share (and really why wouldnt you be its about $20 from the airport).
Taxis if like us you wanted to explore a little and really you should as Jamaica is an amazing island and a lot bigger than I expected, I suggest you befriend a driver and come up with you own deals and agree prices up front if you want to do a the private tourist thingsor failing that book through your hotel (Dunns river falls, swimming with Dolphins, etc)
Enjoy!
"Loved It!"
I've done quite a bit of travelling lately (five trips to different countries in the last twelve months) and missing a few reviews, so hopefully I will find the time to write about those also. Now., I love love loved this resort and hope to return in March 2014. Don't hesitate in choosing this resort, you will not be disappointed. This was my first trip to Jamaica and I can say that the resort staff and locals are the friendliest people that I have ever encountered along my travels. The airport is ten minutes away and you will not be bothered by any sounds, we enjoyed seeing the planes come and go (all sizes). If you take a look at the website the map will show you where everything is located. The shows at night are worth the visit! I'm not talking about typical resort skits with the entertainment staff, I'm talking about real steel drum bands and singers brought in from outside of the resort to perform, very talented artists. When you watch the shows outside at night the backdrop across the bay with the mountain full of lights reminds me of Bora Bora. We stayed in room 4320 in a preferred suite and the location was excellent, water views both ways (not looking at other balconies) and very private. The preferred club pool is a beautiful spot (we like it quieter) and if we weren't at this pool we were on the beach. The preferred pool looks like one large pool, but is divided into two sections (hidden by a little foot bridge), the section closest to the building is heated, yes heated, and I loved it!! The other section of the pool has the infinity side and the temperature was good too, maybe 84F. I loved that they had floaties for the pool, used these a lot, especially great to lay on your tummy to tan your back, much more comfy on your body than laying on a sun lounger. Plus, the floaties are great entertainment when you see other guests try to get on them gracefully!! lol (myself included). Important Note: Only one of the restaurants (if you want to sit inside), the Bordeaux Restaurant requires the men to wear long pants, etc. This is a real bonus, I think. We generally bring nice things to wear for dinner anyway, and when we were there others dressed nice too, but it is nice that you can go to dinner and men at least have the option to wear nice bermuda shorts with a great shirt. When we went the weather at night was hotter than expected and my husband was so glad that he could wear shorts. I could really go on and on about this place with only good things to say, you'll just have to go yourself and experience this great resort. Now the question, "would I go back for a repeat visit" - absolutely, without a doubt.
"25th Wedding Anniversary Trip"
My husband and I stayed 12/1-6. The trip was wonderful. Drinks upon arrival. Booked through AMEX and had no problems whatsoever. Everything at the hotel was wonderful: check in, rooms, beach, beach service, pool, food, entertainment, special free anniversary champagne and breakfast room service. We were worried about snorkeling because you can only go in supervised group. The snorkeling wound up being the best thing that we enjoyed. Right outside the roped off beach are coral reefs with wonderful fish. The guide would point out different fish and bring up things for us to see. We did it every day we were there. Also, they serve the BEST Jamaican jerk chicken straight from the grill right by the beach chairs so we never even tried the lunch buffet. The only problem we encountered was a spoiled steak at a restaurant. My husband was slightly sick for one night. It did not ruin our trip and we would go back, but it was still disappointing. Overall, we loved this resort and would go back. Decided after we got there to do no excursions and spend whole time at resort.
"Perfect Winter Getaway!"
We had a fantastic time at St. James. Our check in at the Preferred area went very smoothly and we were in our room very quickly. We were in a ground floor master suite that was just fantastic! A nice dining area, lounge area with big screen TV and a huge bedroom and bath. And lets not forget the patio with hot tub! Our team of butlers, Patrick, Dalton and Michael, took very good care of us during our stay, making reservations, shuttling us around the resort and making recommendations for things to do and see.
We never left the resort, spending most of our time lounging on the beach. We never had any trouble finding lounge chairs where we wanted to sit, and towels were plentiful. Drink service on the beach was just okay, but I didn't mind the short stroll to the bar to refill our glasses. The bartenders were very friendly and poured a good solid drink.
We ate at all of the restaurants on site and found them all very good. Our favorites were the Japanese hibachi and the Mexican El Patio. As most other reviewers have mentioned, the jerk chicken cart must not be missed, it's fantastic!
The spa was very good, with my wife an I doing the hydro circuit and having a Swedish massage. The prices were a bit high, but the service was very good.
All in all a great vacation at a perfect resort. We will be back!
"A little bit of luxury"
A lovely resort with very friendly and helpful staff. We upgraded to the preferred club on arrival which was cheaper than booking through the travel agents so make sure you do this if you want to upgrade. We got free wifi and a soaking tub on our balcony with full free bar and many other delights. A lovely resort with lots of pools and great food, make sure you try the jerk chicken on the beach and the patties and dumplings from the barefoot grill, washed down with a fresh coconut.
This is a lovely 5 star resort with great entertainment and beautiful white beaches, well worth the money if you want that bit of luxury.
"AMAZING :)"
Stayed here for three weeks it was AMAZING, we cant wait to go back. Food was best i have ever tasted and to much to choose from, rooms were excellent and very clean, bar stocked every day and fresh flowers in room. All staff were so friendley that i keep in touch with alot of them, gardens are beautiful, pools are spotless, beach is so beautiful we dident want to come home, hotel caters for every one's needs and resturants are second to none. There is a lobster resturant on the beach just 2 mins walk from hotel its gorgeous and i would recomend you try it, we went on the bob marley tour wich was excellent and very cheap to buy what ever you want, also the markets in the city center are great for a day out and get to mix with jamacians and have a rum or 6 with them ,all in all this hotel is one of the best we loved it x
"Great trip with our two older children!!!"
We had the best time. We took a family vacation over Thanksgiving with our two children over 18. It was a great time. The entertainment team was wonderful. We want to rave about Sparks, Cornflakes, Leo and Marlando. We spent most of our time at the Wild Orchid pool!!!! The bartenders were wonderful. Made us feel like family. Our children were included in every pool game. They are not shy and helped other vacationers join in!!!!! They even joked that our "flight" had been cancelled so we would stay. 7 nights and 6 days was not enough!!! Could have spent a much longer time there!!! Will definitely recommend to others and go there again!!!! Give raises to the above mentioned. We may have missed some others who made our trip such a success!!! THANK YOU ST. JAMES for making our time with our kids so memorable!!!!!
"Excellent vacay!"
We went earlier this month and had a lovely time. The resort is gated off and connects to a sister resort. It is beautiful, clean and the staff are wonderful. Everything is a "pleasure". The food is decent and you will find your favorite places to dine.
The staff at the pool bar are fabulous. Say hello to Party Leo!!
The suites are lovely and it looks like all of the rooms have a fantastic view of the ocean. Really loved the cheese plate and bottle of wine waiting for us at arrival.
If there was anything extra that you needed, all you had to do is ask. Also, I love that the staff would go to any extra lengths to get whatever you need. For instance, when dining at the mexican restaurant, they would happily go grab a dessert from the italian restaurant.
Lovely place truly and I would absolutely visit again.
"A Slice of Paradise!"
We traveled to Jamaica Dec. 17th-21st, 2013 for a mini-vacation before the holidays. Our flight was delayed and we ended up spending twice the time we should've on the plane so we arrived after dark instead of after lunch. I was so happy that we didn't have a long drive after such a horrendous flight because we were exhausted and stressed. Check-in was pleasant and we ended up taking an upgrade deal for an oceanfront room (we had booked oceanview) and as part of the upgrade we were given an iPad to use and free WiFi as well as access to the Preferred Club pools. As we are repeat resort guests we were also given some special amenities...a banner saying Repeat Guest on our door, a lovely and huge fruit platter, some wine with glasses in our suite and a gift of a large bottle of Appleton rum! Everyone could not have been friendlier or more helpful. :-) (Thank you Shanique at the front desk - you were awesome!) We were very tired so pretty much fell into bed after ordering room service, but the next morning we woke up to a beautiful day and a magnificent view that was definitely worth the upgrade!
The suites are a nice size and my husband absolutely loved the bathroom area and the shower with the rain showerhead. Housekeeping was great. We like to go out to dinner early and then come back to our suite early and read so we would call and let them know that and ask if our room could be turned down while we were at dinner and that was never an issue. The bed was heaven...a pillowtop that you melted into ensured a great sleep. The room blocked pretty much all sound from the outside, although we have a noise app (ocean surf) on our phone that we use at night regularly and always take on vacation with us to help block any hallway or outside noise.
All the food we had was fantastic. I was worried I might not like Jamaican food, but it was delicious and the breakfast buffet always provided a huge selection of every breakfast food imaginable as well as a few Jamaican specialties to try (love the Sorrel juice). We also tried the Mexican restaurant and they had a special that night - shrimp fajitas and they were incredible! All the servers were great - fun personalities, polite and always smiling. No complaints with the food. It was incredible (try the escargot in puff pastry for an appetizer...to die for!). Everyone we spoke with mentioned how good the food was and my steak and lobster tail was incredible.
The grounds were beautifully landscaped with all kinds of colourful flowers and palm trees and pretty lights. At night the top of the towers at the ends of the buildings would light up with coloured lights that changed through blue, green, red and purple as well as the pools. So pretty! It was very peaceful and pretty to walk around the grounds and we loved seeing all the peacocks that roamed freely as well as Bob & Rita, the resort parrots. It felt so calming to walk the property. We loved it.
I heard that the beach was man-made and worried that it might not be that great but it was fine. Lovely to walk along and no venders pestering you. We never had any problems getting a lounger near the beach (not even a beach bed!) or the pool (love the wicker cave-like chairs they have filled with pillows - so lovely to lie in and read). The water was every shade of blue imaginable and we saw a few colourful fish as well as a large jellyfish the size of a dinner plate the last day we were there (it is jellyfish season but luckily that was the only one we saw and we avoided it).
CoCo Cafe was wonderful...my husband's absolute favourite place to go. I loved their Jamaican Coffee with whipped cream. Yum! There was always an abundance of snacks around (jars of delicious cookies, self-serve soft ice cream cones, little sandwiches and cakes). It was situation in a nice spot where they have a small courtyard with seating for watching a movie at night or just relaxing during the day. The courtyard is surrounded by shops and their wedding planner office and there's also lots of things like pool tables, a giant chess board and other games as well as a small casino with machines. that was open 24 hours.
The Spa was wonderful! My husband and I both had a head, back and shoulders massage and I have never felt so relaxed or loose. Every staff member we dealt with was friendly and polite and the girls who did the treatments were so good. I also had a facial and a pedicure. They are always offering daily deals and specials so keep your ears open or call them up to see what the deal of the day is. Plus, if you go, the Hydrotherapy Circuit is a must! It's awesome and relaxing!
"MERRY CHRISTMAS"
It was another wonderful experience to check in to Montego Bay St. James, my home away from home and spend December 25th with what feels like family.
Special thanks especially to Billy Love & Jeremy (Guest Services) Marcia Smith(Concierge), Rodcliffe (Portofino) & Carlton (the water jelly man).
Keep up the good work!
"WONDERFUL HONEYMOON"
I have to say that this was the BEST vacation I have ever been on! We did two weeks at St. James and I totally fell in love with Jamaica, the culture, the people and of course the jerk chicken! The staff were totally amazing! Sparks, Fresh Prince, Inch, Happy Feet and Bruce really made our trip fun even though the hotel was a little more quiet at times compared to our normal style of vacation. Honestly this is the best service we have ever experienced all the bell staff and servers as well went totally above and beyond everyday to make our vacation relaxing! We truly felt like gold staying there and the food was awesome. Normally after one week of all-inclusive you are sick of the food as it normally all tastes the exact same but not here!
The only thing I would say is that we paid a lot more money to get an upgraded room which is actually the exact same room with a bit of a better view to get the wifi and the connection in our room was terrible! The only other thing I would say to watch out for is the car services and cab prices from the hotel! $60.00 = 5 min cab ride down the street when you can go grab your own cab outside the hotel for $7.00 to the same place.
I would stay at St. James again and can not wait to go back to Jamaica!
"Luxury mixed with KNOWLEDGE"
Wherever I travel, learning about the local culture is just as important as enjoying the accommodations. This is the only resort I've been to that offered 1. a cooking class to teach you how to take make local dishes at home (ours covered jerk chicken, atkee and salt fish, as well as a local bread fruit); 2. an introductory class on the local lonaguage (patois) and 3. an actual LOCAL HISTORY course. AND ALL WERE PROVIDED AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!!! Beside the beautiful scenery, the knowledge provided were the best part of my experience at Secrets. Respect to Mr. Roach and Mr. Blue!!!
"The Staff make this hotel a 5* resort"
The restaurants are fabulous especially the French which you do not have to book the service is excellent in this restaurant. The only food you book for is the Tapanyaki table which is really good fun with delicious cooked food whilst you watch. There is also Italian,Mexican,Jamaican, fish and steak/grill. The best lunch we ate was the jerk chicken served from the cart on the beach front! There are many bars, we loved the Barracuda bar over looking the beach for a few delicious sun downer cocktails and also the Lobby bar which had a champagne trolley & great bartender.
The piano bar in the middle of the resort is a great place for a pre dinner drink and a sing along. The outdoor stage evening entertainment is very good also there is a indoor theatre.
The swimming pools with swim up bar and waitress service are great but many guests reserve the sun beds from about 6.30am! which is crazy especially as we watched a few guests reserving the beds by the pool & on the beach which is very selfish.
The hotel staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. We loved all the smiles and singing especially from the front bell captain, bell staff and the breakfast waiters!
This resort is good for relaxing and also for fun.
The bed in our room was the best hotel bed we have slept in!
We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff they made our holiday special.
I miss the big Jamaican smiles as well as the sunshine.
"Dream Vacation"
Me, my husband and four of our friends vacationed at St James December 8-14th, 2013. In a re-cap, we LOVED it.
I had read a lot of reviews that room service only happened every other day or so, but our bed was made and room was cleaned every day! On our 2nd to last day there, my husband put money on the bed for a tip (only $3) and when we came back everything was organized for us! All my stuff on the bathroom counter was organized and clothes were folded. I wish we would have remembered to tip all week!
The entertainment staff was great. We had played a Minute to Win it game by the pool one day and when we saw the staff the next day they remembered all of our names.
At the Italian restaurant, our server was Lamaar. We LOVED him. We could just tell he loved his job. We ended up going back the next night and Lamaar remembered some of our names. Oh, and the food was AMAZING there! I am a VERY picky eater and I managed to find something good to eat at each place we ate at.
We ended up sitting in the hot tub two nights in a row for a few hours. A worker named Steven absolutely catered to us! Whatever we needed, he got. Towels, drinks and even room service! Yes, we had steak and grilled cheese in the hot tub thanks to Steven!
Our group did pay the extra money for excursions. Tanya in the business center did a great job setting it all up for us. We went to Dolphin Cove, Dunns River Falls (highly recommend), Mystic Mountain (ziplinning and bobsledding) and we did the Booze Cruise boat ride where we went snorkeling and stopped at Margaretville.
"Reminiscing about a wonderful vacation!"
This hotel is swarmed with smiling and friendly staff from the moment you arrive! It is on the newer side (I heard it's less than 5 years old) and the rooms are well appointed and very clean. We had the Preferred Jr. Master Studio with private soaking tub on the balcony. We were on the 3rd floor and had a nice view of the ocean. There were many nice restaurants to choose from and the food is very good. I don't drink much, but my husband said the liquor is top shelf and they pour heavy. It's an all-inclusive and they are never skimpy. There was housekeeping service during the day and turn-down svc at night. The pool/beach towels are big and soft and you don't have to deal with towel cards, like some other all-inclusive resorts. We took out the sail boats and kayaks - no charge. We got a complementary boat ride and snorkel tour (off-site) with drinks on boat. I am hard-pressed to say anything negative (maybe on one or two nights we heard noise from guests walking the hall or music from other resort). This was a place I'd return to. I have been to many all-inclusives b/c it's convenient and usually cost-effective. I have a good frame-of-reference b/c I have traveled to many Four Seasons Hotels and Club Med with family. This place is a great value and most pleasant. It's about 15-20 minutes from MBJ airport and little more than an hour in each direction to Ocho Rios and Negril- if you wanted to visit those places to explore. I would return one day.
